Ilfracombe is situated within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. On the cusp of Exmoor National Park, it’s a walkers paradise with many spectacular walking trails offering unspoilt natural beauty, peace and tranquillity.
From a family stroll around Ilfracombe Harbour, an hour’s ramble to Hillsborough with it’s glorious panoramic views of Lundy Island, a leisurely circular walk along the spectacular South West Coast Path to Lee to the challenge of a full days trek to Woolacombe, you will find a wide variety of walks just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.
You can browse our own information pack or visit our local Tourist Information Centre within walking distance of us which has a wide range of booklets and maps for walkers including five half-day walks from Ilfracombe by Bryan Cath which has easy to follow route directions, distance, difficulty ratings and even places to eat and toilets on route!

The South West Coast Path National Trail is 630 miles of superb coastline stretching from Minehead to Poole. The heritage, wildlife, geology and scenery are truly inspirational and it's one of the top walks to be found anywhere in the world.
The Coast Path is virtually on our doorstep and you can enjoy some spectacular half and full day walks, some with fantastic views across the Bristol Channel to the Welsh Coast and Lundy Island. Nearby resorts such as Woolacombe and Combe Martin can be visited and there is always a bus back to us!
The Tarka Trail is a figure-of-eight off road cycle and walking trail, based on Barnstaple, which covers 180 miles and uses the old railway tracks of North Devon. It passes through a variety of landscapes including wooded river valleys, rugged moorland, coastal cliffs and sandy bays. The largely unspoilt countryside was descibed by Henry Williamson in his classic novel'Tarka the Otter.' A section of the Trail forms the National Cycle Network Route 27 (Devon Coast-to-Coast) from Ilfracombe to Plymouth using former railway lines and this section (commencing a short drive or a 15 minute walk from us) offers peace and tranquility and a chance to spot a variety of wildlife including rare birds as you stroll through the Cairn Nature Reserve.
