Terms and Conditions

We ask that you read the following terms and conditions prior to booking a stay at Ocean Backpackers.

Bookings:

We reserve the right to move guests into different rooms if necessary. If we have to do this, we will aim to use a like for like room. If we cannot provide a like for like room we will offer a refund. We also reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who appears to be under the influence or drugs or alcohol, without refund.

Cancellations:

You may cancel or alter your booking (subject to availability) up to seven days prior to your arrival date. If we do not receive notification that you would like to cancel within this time, we reserve the right to charge in full for your booking. This includes cancellation because of accidents or illness.

We strongly recommend that guests ensure that they have adequate travel insurance, in order to cover this eventually.

To make a booking you must supply a valid address, telephone number and an e-mail address, so that we can provide you with an emailed receipt. This will enable us to contact you in an emergency. We don’t accept long stay bookings and operate a maximum stay of 7 days in a dormitory, or 14 days in a private room.

Groups:

We have 37 beds, 6 of which are doubles so we can sleep 43. A 25% non-refundable deposit is payable at the time of booking, which must be made by debit/credit card or BACs. There will be a charge fo ofr Credit cards. Bookings are not secured until the deposit has been received. Invoices can be requested at the time of booking. Full payment is payable eight weeks prior to your stay (which is also non-refundable) along with a property bond. We will consider requests to change dates within the same calendar year, subject to availability. However, this may affect the cost of your stay, depending on the time of year.

With exclusive bookings (i.e.bookings of the entire hostel) all bed spaces booked must be paid for, despite the number of people actually staying. We also require a security bond to be paid alongside the balance. The bond which varies depending on the length and nature of stay will be returned in full after departure, provided the hostel is left as found with no excessive cleaning, damages and noise complaints from local residents.

Competitions Terms & Conditions

This competition is promoted by Ocean Backpackers whose registered office is at 29 St James Place, Ilfracombe, EX34 9BJ. The competition is open to residents of the UK aged 18 years or older. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition. By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating their agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.   3. Sign up to our website at the link (either in the Instagram Bio or Facebook post copy itself)
  4. Comment on who you want to go travelling with in the contact message box and don’t opt out.

The competition is being run on Instagram and Facebook. Only one entry will be accepted per person.

Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified.

Closing date for entry will be at 11:59pm on Friday the 31st of March 2023. After this date no further entries to the competition will be permitted. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason. The rules of the competition are as follows:

  • Ocean Backpackers reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of our control.
  • Any changes to the competition will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by Ocean Backpackers.
  • The prize is 3 nights in private double room for 2, two nights in a family room for 2 adults and up to 2 children or up to 5 nights in a shared dormitory for one. The stay cannot be split and is subject to availability.
  • Must be taken before November 2023.
  • Winners will be chosen at random by software, from all entries received and verified by Ocean Backpackers.
  • The winner will be notified by DM on Facebook or Instagram or via email within 28 days of the closing date.
  • The winner will only ever be contacted by Ocean Backpackers directly.
  • If the winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the prize within 14 days of notification, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner.
  • Ocean Backpackers’ decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating their agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
